Basé sur la norme Afnor NF Z71-300, portant sur les dispositions clavier informatique à 105 touches dans sa version bureautique, et à 72 touches dans sa version comptacte, le pilote de clavier AZERTY normalisé permet :
La saisie de certains caractères courants en français tels que les capitales accentuées É, È, Ç, À, Ù, Ÿ ou les ligatures œ, æ, Œ, Æ ;
La saisie de l’ensemble des caractères des langues régionales de France ;
La saisie de l’ensemble des caractères des langues à alphabet latin présentes sur le continent européen ;
De rendre plus accessibles de nouveaux jeux de caractères et symboles : alphabet grec, symboles mathématiques…
