DCFL_NSRL

DESCRIPTION:

In computer forensics, the gold standard for white listing of files is the NIST National Software Reference Library's Reference Data Set (NIST NSRL RDS). That said, this set has drawbacks because the tool was developed to support piracy investigations, the primary issues being multiple file duplication on the order of millions of duplicates, and the fact that the sets are not sorted on MD5sum.

Enter the DCFL NSRL. At the Defense Cyber Crime Center's Defense Computer Forensics Lab (DCFL) we are not concerned with piracy investigations, as are 99% of computer forensic examiners, so we take great pains each quarter, as NIST publishes their revised RDS, to download, convert to HashKeeper format, deduplicate, and sort on MD5 sum every hash. You'll find the latest hash sets in all of the common formats suitable for input into your favorite forensic tool.
